Shooting Assignment #3
Focus on Composition
(due posted to your Tumblr before class on 10/2)
Use the Rule of Thirds and other compositional devices that we learned in class to fulfill this assignment. Use the information we talked about in class and what you have learned from reading over pages 147-151 in your book.
For this assignment I want you to go outside. No indoor pictures! Walk around your neighborhood and explore with your camera.
· Shoot images that
fulfill these criteria and post SIX (6)
Image 1 - Put the main subject off to one side or one corner of the frame. Can you balance the image so that it does not feel lopsided? Think rule-of-thirds!
Image 2 - Use a very low angle or high angle in order to make the image more interesting.
Image 3 - Have the main subject in the middle but include a type of framing device around the edges. For example: through a window, doorway, trees, a crowd of people.
Image 4 - Include shadows or reflections in your image and make them as important as your main subject.
Image 5 - Take an extreme close-up making the image abstract. Make us try and figure out what it is.
Image 6 * - Photograph something in its entirety; a person, a shop-front, an animal, an
overstuffed chair – whatever gets your attention. Move in a little
closer. How will you use the frame to cut into the object? Do you
crop the object evenly all around? More on one side than the other?
Move in even closer. Closer.
*
Image 6 will consist of two photos of the same subject. One is in its entirety and the other is
a closer more interesting shot of the
same thing.
From now on I want you to include the Image # , along with what f-stop, aperture and ISO you used for each picture when you upload your images.
The more creative the higher the grade!
